Big ships didn't come every five minutes, not every day, not even every week. "Boat Day" was a very special day, indeed. Everyone who could, went down to the pier. The Royal Hawaiian Band was playing "Aloha Oe", the lei sellers were there, the reporters were there to interview the VIP's, the diving boys were there (diving for coins dropped in the water), the canoes were there, even if you were expecting no one, you were there.
