Waikiki beach behind barbed wire

Barbed wires went up on the beaches, because the military expected an
amphibious assault and they weren't far from the truth. The Japanese
attack plan called for two waves of air strikes and landing of forces later.
However, the Japanese realized after the first wave, that they had
missed the aircraft carriers and cancelled the second wave. They didn't
know where they were and considered a second attack too dangerous.
