#1 MAP INSTRUCTIONS

The old "Belt Road" (runs around the island like a belt) makes it possible to make an almost perfect circular trip, without having to make too many round trips. For the time being, the "belt" is broken at Kalapana, because the lava is flowing over the road. I picked Kailua-Kona as starting point, because most visitors land and stay there. Even though the Big Island is more than twice as big as all the other islands combined, it is possible to drive around it in one day. I do not recommend it! Being in a rush is very unHawaiian :-). Do it at least in two days. For example: Kailua/Kona - Hilo on the first day and Hilo - Kailua/Kona on the second.

While you can use the maps in any order (forward, backward or at random), I recommend that, when you make your virtual trip on the internet, you follow the numerical sequence, moving forward, at least the first time. Sometimes, a set of pictures tells a story and part of that story, enclosed with the picture, may not make complete sense by itself. Also, some stories may have a real funny outcome, if read backwards :-) and some pictures may look meaningless without the story behind them. When you eventually make your trip to us and you use the maps (printed out or on your laptop monitor) for navigation only, I still recommend the same, but it is less important.

I hope you will have a lot of fun on my site, but I need your opinion to make it even better. Please, write me at:
