Smog in Hawaii? No, but there's vog.

Explanation:
Smog = smoke + fog. Vog = Volcanic fumes + fog.
It's not nearly as irritating as LA smog, but it's essentially the same.
It's especially not irritating to me, because I live on the Hilo side.
Due to the prevailing trade winds, it usually effects 
only the unfortunate residents and tourists on the Kona side :-).
Don't be discouraged though, it's normally very mild.
