Book major activities well ahead time!

Explanation:
Tourist traffic fluctuates wildly throughout the year.
Sometimes everything is available right on the spot,
sometimes almost nothing. During major events, like 
Ironman decathlon, Merrie Monarch Festival, canoe races, etc.
you can't even find a dog house for rent. Restaurants
are almost always OK, air and sea tours are usually 50-50%,
if you want to make a booking just a few days ahead.
There're a few superstars, that always require a reservation
well outside 2 weeks, but I'm not in the advertising business.
The rule of thumb is, yes, get those brochures, study them
and make most reservations weeks before your departure.
